Living

Finding Meaning, Purpose and Joy

Living well will look different for every person. It is not about having a perfect life or feeling positive all the time. It is about noticing what matters to you, staying connected to it and finding meaning in the life you are living.

Research suggests that having a sense of purpose and belonging is associated with better emotional wellbeing, stronger relationships and healthier ageing. But purpose does not need to come from a career or a major achievement. It may be found in caring for someone, spending time with family, contributing to the community, practicing faith, creating something, tending a garden or simply being there for another person.

Life can also bring illness, disability, loss and unexpected change. Living well does not mean ignoring these challenges. It can mean adapting, accepting support and continuing to make room for connection, hope and enjoyment alongside the difficult days.

The LIVING pillar brings Healthy, Educated and Active together. It is about using what we learn, the choices we make and the connections we build to create a life that feels meaningful to us.

Ideas to explore:

  • Notice the people, places and activities that give your life meaning
  • Make time for moments that bring enjoyment, calm or connection
  • Practice gratitude, mindfulness, reflection or prayer in a way that feels natural
  • Express yourself through music, art, writing, cooking or creativity
  • Share your time, experience or skills with others
  • Stay connected with family, friends, faith or community
  • Consider what living well means to you at this stage of life

Purpose can change as life changes. Sometimes it is found in a long-held passion; sometimes it begins with one conversation, one relationship or one reason to look forward to tomorrow.
