Vision & Mission
To create a world where people age with purpose, vitality, and confidence—empowered by knowledge, movement, and meaningful lifestyle choices that protect and strengthen brain and body health. A future where cognitive decline is not feared but prevented—one small change at a time.
At H.E.A.L. (Healthy Educated Active Living), our mission is to empower people—especially as they age—to take charge of their brain and body health through knowledge, movement, and meaningful lifestyle changes. We strive to break down the barriers to healthy living by making science-backed information accessible and actionable, helping individuals understand what works and how to apply it in everyday life.
Why We Started H.E.A.L.
“Because aging should be something we prepare for—
not something we fear.”
We’re just a couple of ordinary people growing older—together—with decades of experience in health and health-related education. But our journey into Healthy Educated Active Living (H.E.A.L.) began long before any job title. It was shaped by personal experience, professional insight, and a deep desire to prevent illness, not just treat it.
Jodie’s Story
Since childhood, I’ve had a strong passion for supporting people with disabilities. I watched my brother face—and overcome—enormous challenges after being diagnosed with cancer and having a leg amputated. His resilience inspired my life’s work.
Over the years, Luke and I have run a business providing support to individuals with neurological conditions, especially those living with Parkinson’s disease. We’ve walked alongside clients and families through some of the hardest stages of life. We’ve seen how deeply these conditions affect not just individuals, but entire families—and how ill-prepared many systems are to provide long-term, proactive care.
In my 50s, I was stunned to learn that dementia is the leading cause of death for women in Australia, and the second leading cause for men after heart disease. Unlike cancer or cardiac disease, it isn’t often discussed. It’s not an “attractive” subject. But that silence prompted a powerful question:
Can dementia be prevented?
That one question changed the direction of my life.
Luke’s Story
My own journey was shaped by years of working in the public health system, where I saw patients arriving only after their conditions had worsened. We were reacting to crisis, not preventing it. One experience stands out vividly: a person with dementia became aggressive in a hospital setting. Staff weren’t trained to respond appropriately. Instead of support, the patient was restrained and heavily medicated. That moment struck me deeply.
What if we could intervene sooner? What if we could prevent this altogether?
I left the public system and began working in the private sector, supporting clients with Parkinson’s disease. This shift brought me closer to individuals and families—and gave me time to really ask the bigger questions about risk, resilience, and what role prevention could play. My focus shifted from managing decline to empowering people before decline begins.
Our Shared Vision
These experiences have driven us both to seek out answers—and to live them out in our own lives. We’ve made lifestyle changes, adapted our habits, and committed to a path of prevention.
Not perfection—prevention. Because we believe that informed, intentional living really can reduce the risk of neurological degeneration.
This passion gave rise to H.E.A.L.—a platform for people to get the education, encouragement, and practical tools they need to take charge of their brain and body health. We’re here to help others navigate that same journey—one step at a time.
Because aging should be something we prepare for—not fear.
Because prevention is possible.
Because you deserve to live with clarity, vitality, and purpose.
